Sinner eliminates Gasquet after 3 sets in Halle

Jannik Sinner, world number 9, won against world number 49, Richard Gasquet, 2-1 sets in a 1/16 finals matchup in Halle.

The Italian won the 1^st set 6-3 after converting 1 breakpoint from 5 opportunities. Gasquet did the same thing, but in the 2^nd set, and triumphed after a late break 7-5.

In the deciding set, Sinner showed that he is the better tennis player and won it 6-2 after winning 2 break points from 10 and saving 3 chances for the French to break him.

The two met earlier this year on hard in the 2^nd round at the Indian Wells, and the Italian won that game too, but in straight sets.

Jannik will play against his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego in the 1/8 finals.
