Jannik Sinner, world number 9, won against world number 49, Richard Gasquet, 2-1 sets in a 1/16 finals matchup in Halle.
The Italian won the 1st set 6-3 after converting 1 breakpoint from 5 opportunities. Gasquet did the same thing, but in the 2nd set, and triumphed after a late break 7-5.
Jannik Sinner hits one of the smoothest half-volleys you’ll ever see against Richard Gasquet
So smooth. So nonchalant.
This had shades of Federer.

In the deciding set, Sinner showed that he is the better tennis player and won it 6-2 after winning 2 break points from 10 and saving 3 chances for the French to break him.
The two met earlier this year on hard in the 2nd round at the Indian Wells, and the Italian won that game too, but in straight sets.
Jannik will play against his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego in the 1/8 finals.
