The Italian was inspired by the home support and edged out the Russian

Jannik Sinner emerged victorious against Daniil Medvedev in a hard-fought match 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 to qualify for the final in Turin.

The 22-year-old was been cheered on by the home supporters and he didn’t disappoint as he dispatched the resilient Russian in two hours and 29 minutes.

Victory means Sinner will meet either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz in a shot for the title.

“It is a privilege to have this kind of pressure. The crowd has given me so much energy,” Sinner said.

“It is an incredible feeling because it was a really tough match. I am happy to be in the final.”

It was an equal game all around as tight margins decided the first two sets. In the final set, however, Medvedev lost his focus and handed Sinner a breaking game with an unexpected double fault, which was all the Italian needed to cruise to the finish line.
