The world number 1, Jannik Sinner, has withdrawn from the Paris Olympics because of tonsillitis.
The Italian player struggled with illness during his Wimbledon ¼ final defeat against Daniil Medvedev at the beginning of the month.
Jannik was 1 of the favorites for the gold medal at the tournament on clay, advancing to the Roland-Garros ½ finals after securing his 1st Grand Slam trophy at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year.
“After I trained on clay in the past several days, I began to feel unwell,” Sinner shared on social media.
“I spent several days resting, and during a visit, the doctor found tonsillitis and strongly advised me not to play.
“Missing the Olympics in Paris is a huge disappointment as it was 1 of my main goals for this year.”
The tournament on clay in Paris will be between July 27th and August 4th.
The Italian had been due to compete in singles and doubles in Paris. Novak Djokovic is the new top seed in the singles, as the draw is tomorrow.
