The Reds manager, Arne Slot, has revealed his “football heart” is struggling to adjust to the ways of a modern EPL, sharing the league’s obsession with set-piece routines is making games a chore to watch.
The head coach, who won the league in his 1st campaign with Liverpool, thinks the tactical shift toward crowded goalmouths and physical dead-ball plays has turned the Premier League into an outlier compared to the other European championships.
Despite the team from Anfield’s own recent success from corners, the Dutch boss believes that this “new reality” is set to dominate the landscape in the next few years.
“I believe it’s only happening here in the EPL,” Slot started when asked about the lack of fouls. “If you watch matches from other championships, I see there is not so much emphasis on set pieces. When I watch a game from Eredivisie, you see goals being disallowed and fouls on goalkeepers being given, and I think that’s not how things are happening here in the Premier League.”
"Most of the games I see are not a joy to watch." 🗣️
