The former Britain’s women No.1 Emma Raducanu revealed that she sometimes wishes she didn’t win the US Open in 2021, reflecting on the mental and physical struggles she faced afterwards.
The 20-year-old sensationally clinched the big trophy as a teenager, an accomplishment that skyrocketed her name to tennis stardom.
However, since then Raducanu is having a difficult time with injuries and mental problems.
Speaking to the Times she said:
“I was struggling with the physical pain but the mental side of it was really difficult for me too,”
“I always want to put forward the best version of myself, or strive for that, but I knew I couldn’t.”
Raducanu has participated in only 10 WTA matches in 2023, winning 5, with the last one coming at the Indian Wells. She missed the French Open and will also be absent from the Wimbledon due to minor operations on her ankle and hands.
As a result, Raducanu’s rating has dropped from 10th to the shocking 128.
