Jurgen (59) was hired 12 months ago and had a deal until the end of the World Cup in 2026.
Jordan had defeated South Korea in the Asian Cup 10 days ago, prolonging the Koreans’ 64-year wait for a trophy.
The KFA criticized the German head coach’s leadership and claimed a change “is necessary.”
Supporters, politicians, and the media in the country had called for Jurgen to be dismissed after their ½ final elimination in Qatar, and there were also reports of in-fighting between top footballers during the championship.
The Tigers of Asia captain Son Heung-min injured his finger after a fight with teammates during dinner hours before Jordan beat them and eliminated them from the Asian Cup.
Jurgen refused to resign after the disappointing tournament, but the Korea Football Association dismissed him for elevating the competitiveness of South Korea’s national men’s football team.
In his first public presser in years, KFA president Chung Mong-gyu announces with his head down to read a prepared statement throughout the whole time to announce the dismissal of Jurgen Klinsmann as Korea manager, saying “he couldn’t do what we expected from a Korea manager.” https://t.co/tJQKN2IIcc pic.twitter.com/LhpHKY1hn0
