They are the 1st two of 7 footballers that head coach Gareth Southgate will omit from his provisional 33-man roster ahead of the end of the week’s submission deadline. Rumors are that Jarell Quansah will also be omitted from the squad.
The Tottenham midfielder came off the bench during the beginning of the week’s 3-0 friendly victory vs. Bosnia & Herzegovina at St. James’ Park. Maddison was part of Southgate’s roster for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but didn’t play.
James had to withdraw from he Euro 2024 qualifiers in the autumn because he suffered ankle problem during Tottenham’s 4-1 loss against Chelsea.
Before that, Maddison had 3 goals and 5 assists for Spurs in 11 matches, but he struggled with his form late in the season as he has netted only 1 goal this calendar year.
