Keldon Johnson, the San Antonio Spurs’ longest-tenured basketballer, shared what they felt after being defeated 124-113 by the NY Knicks in the NBA Cup final.
Since Keldon’s rookie year 6 years ago, San Antonio hasn’t won more than 34 matches in a campaign. But he and his teammates think that experience with reaching the final in the competition will help them as a team.
“I believe that when you were the favorite to win, it means more when you didn’t do it,” Keldon claimed. “It’s still a new feeling for our group as we didn’t have any expectations to win in the past few seasons, but now everything is different.”
After most of the players sustained different injuries since the beginning of the campaign, the final was just the 2nd match San Antonio competed with a full roster of available basketballers.
Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama came off the bench in just his 2nd match back from a 12-match absence and helped his team with 18 points and 16 boards. However, New York outscored San Antonio by 18 points during the 25 minutes that the French player was on the court.
Left it all on the court.
