Mike McCarthy returns home.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have verbally agreed with him to become just their 4th head coach since 1969, the organization revealed today.
McCarthy’s appointment comes less than 2 weeks after Mike Tomlin shared that he is walking away from his position after 19 years.

Pittsburgh chose Mike after interviewing 7 candidates and 3, including him, in person.
The franchise also held in-person interviews with the Vikings DC Brian Flores and the Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver. Mike had his in-person interview between the two.
Mike, who didn’t lead an organization in the past year, spent 5 campaigns with Dallas before he and the Cowboys failed to reach a deal extension after the 2024 campaign, leading to Dallas appointing Brian Schottenheimer.
The former Dallas manager, who won the Super Bowl with the Packers in 2010, brings that title experience to Pittsburgh, which last triumphed with the title in 2008.
Rumors are that McCarthy’s appointment can be a decisive factor for the veteran QB Aaron Rodgers to return to the team. Mike coached Aaron for 13 years during their time with the Packers.
