Iga Swiatek managed to defeat Tatjana Maria 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 in her first match as a preparation for the Wimbledon at Bad Homburg Open.
The Pole didn’t have it all her way as her much lower-rated opponent dictated the pace in the first set and deservedly led by 1-0.
However, the world No.1 class showed just in time as she managed to turn the match around, comfortably clinching the next two sets.
She broke Maria early in the second and third sets to accelerate to victory and set up a second-round meeting with Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann.
Swiatek has never managed to pass the fourth round of the Wimbledon, but her success at the French Open, despite being a completely different court, makes her one of the favorites for this year’s edition.
