“My main goal was to keep going and don’t look at the score,” The French and US Open champion Swiatek said after the match.
“I saw how Cristina can play when she played her last round. I know she can be solid so I didn’t really want her to come back and I’m glad that I was really disciplined and focused on my tactics.
“I felt like I’m in a little bit of a flow so that’s nice. I always try and focus on the same stuff, pretty technical stuff. It doesn’t matter if I’m winning or losing it’s all the same to help me to stay disciplined. That’s all basically. I don’t try to overanalyze it.”
The Pole, chasing her first Australian Open title as she looks to improve on her maiden semi-final appearance in 2022, will now face a showdown with Wimbledon title holder Elena Rybakina for a place in the quarter-finals.
Kazakhstan’s Rybakina beat USA’s Danielle Collins 6-2 5-7 6-2.
