Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag spoke in the aftermath of their heavy 0-4 defeat to Crystal Palace, acknowledging responsibility for the subpar performance while emphasizing the need for improvement in the next match.
“This performance wasn’t good enough, and I have to take responsibility for that. But I will find the energy and prepare them for the next match. We have nine points left to play for, and we must fight for them,” stated Ten Hag.
Acknowledging the team’s defensive woes, Ten Hag highlighted the critical shortage of defenders as a significant factor in their struggles. “Sure, when we have all the necessary players, we are very good. But right now, we have a sharp shortage of defenders. That’s why the team is experiencing problems,” he explained to Sky Sports.
“You can’t blame just one player; it’s a team performance. We didn’t adapt to different situations. It’s clear we didn’t perform as we wanted, it wasn’t good enough,” he emphasized.
Ten Hag admitted that the team failed to address crucial issues effectively. “There are always reasons; everyone could see our defensive line today, where we had huge problems. But ultimately, we have to deal with these issues and we should have dealt with them better,” he said.
Despite the setback, Ten Hag reaffirmed his commitment to the team’s improvement. “I will continue to fight, I prepared the team in the best possible way,” he concluded
