Mills will continue in his role behind C.J. Stroud, who was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year last season. The Texans originally selected Mills in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he was thrust into a starting role as a rookie due to Deshaun Watson’s legal issues and again in 2022 after Watson was traded to the Cleveland Browns.
Mills started 26 games during his first two seasons, securing five wins during that span. Stroud, drafted No. 2 overall in 2023, took over as the starter, with Mills appearing in six games last season as his backup.
In 34 career games, the 25-year-old Mills has completed 62.8% of his passes for 5,955 yards, with 35 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. However, he led the league with 15 interceptions in 2022.
