New York City FC announced on Monday night that they are loaning the 22-year forward Thiago Andrade for the Brazil football club Athletico Paranaense.
The loan spell will continue to December 2023. In addition, the deal includes a purchase option if certain performance criteria are met.
“We believe this is a great opportunity for Thiago to return home, where he will be able to continue his career development,” NYCFC sporting director David Lee said in a release.
“We would like to thank Thiago for his contributions in New York and look forward to following his progress throughout the season. We wish him all the best with his new team.”
Andrade signed for NYFC in 2021 from Brazilian club Bahia and has bagged 10 goals and 4 assists in 58 appearances (24 of which as a first-choice). He was part of the NYFC team that clinched the MLS cup in 2021 and also Campeones Cup in 2022.
“I want to thank everyone at New York City Football Club for giving me the opportunity to come to this great city and helping me develop into the player I am today,” Andrade said.
“… I look forward to returning to Brazil and the prospect of this new challenge. I would like to wish everyone at NYCFC the best for the rest of the season.”
