Fresh off an MVP season and leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to their first NBA title since 1979, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has secured a record-setting payday.
The Thunder signed their superstar point guard to a four-year, $285 million supermax extension, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday.
The deal, which follows back-to-back All-NBA First Team selections, becomes the richest annual contract in NBA history — putting Gilgeous-Alexander on track to become the league’s first player.
The 26-year-old had two years and over $78 million remaining on his previous deal, but Oklahoma City wasted no time in locking down the reigning MVP and Finals MVP long-term.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s 2024–25 campaign was one for the ages. He captured the NBA scoring title by averaging 32.7 points per game, along with 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.7 steals.

He led the Thunder to an NBA-best 68-14 regular season record before elevating his game in the playoffs, averaging nearly 30 points per game en route to a Game 7 win over the Indiana Pacers in the Finals.
With the title-clinching performance, Gilgeous-Alexander joined elite company — becoming only the fourth player in NBA history to win the league MVP, Finals MVP, and a scoring title in the same season, alongside legends Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Shaquille O’Neal.
