Stefanos Tsitsipas secured a place in the Australian Open final for the first time after beating Russian Karen Khachanov in four sets 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 in an enthralling clash at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
The 24-year-old Greek – ranked No. 4 in the world – defeated his opponent in just under three and a half hours and will now play either Novak Djokovic or the American Tommy Paul in Sunday’s final.

Tsitsipas suffered a third-set blip, but he responded in style to take his fourth match point of the contest and wrap up the victory.
“I thought how hard I’ve worked to get in this position. If you stick around and dedicate yourself even more it pays off quite well,” the Greek, who will become the world number one if he wins the title, said.
Tsitsipas lost to Novak Djokovic in the 2021 French Open final and might have the chance to avenge that loss.
“We have a player (Djokovic) who has played nine finals here and a player from my generation,” he said. I played a lot with Tommy (Paul) in the juniors so it is beautiful to see him come from behind and be able to play those semis in Grand Slam events. It brings back memories for sure.”
“These are the moments I am working hard for to be able to play in finals like this. It’s a Grand Slam final and I am fighting for that number one spot. It’s a childhood dream. I am close and I am happy that this is coming in Australia, a place of significance for me. Let’s do it guys, let’s go.”
