Miami will opt to terminate his contract early to save a lot of money from salary

The Miami Dolphins finally secured their first win of the season on Monday night against the New York Jets, but the victory was overshadowed by a devastating setback. Star wide receiver Tyreek Hill suffered a gruesome knee injury that required emergency surgery, effectively ending his season — and possibly his time with the franchise.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Hill tore multiple ligaments in his dislocated knee, including his ACL. The injury will sideline him for the remainder of the year and leave him facing a  recovery into 2026. “Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill has torn multiple ligaments in his dislocated knee, including his ACL, ending his season and giving him a long road ahead for 2026,” Rapoport reported.

“The fact that the Dolphins haven’t made a move at WR on a short week might hint that Chris Grier has something up his sleeve,” wrote Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald. “Losing Tyreek Hill isn’t a ‘next man up’ situation. It’s a ‘we’ll have to change everything’ situation.”

Beyond the immediate blow, Hill’s injury could accelerate his departure from Miami. According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, the structure of Hill’s contract makes his release before the 2026 league year highly likely. His 2026 salary includes nearly $30 million in non-guaranteed money, with $16 million becoming guaranteed if he remains on the roster by March 14 — a scenario league insiders view as nearly impossible given his injury status.
