UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has expressed no concern over the investments made by teams from Saudi Arabia. He believes it is a financial loss that will not sustain for long.
“Threat to European football? I’m not worried. I don’t think you can buy football. I saw a study on how many fans follow the clubs and leagues. In Spain, 98% don’t know which team Benzema transferred to,” shared Ceferin to The Guardian.
“The approach is not good, and we see that some players already want to come back. In England, Newcastle is a good example of Saudi clubs. They didn’t buy big stars, but they managed to qualify for the Champions League. I was surprised. I thought they would buy many players,” he added.
“I don’t want to be critical, but the Saudi league will not last long. It’s a waste of money,” Alexander Ceferin stated emphatically.
