In Hilary Knight’s last Olympics, she helped his nation to win the gold again.
Veteran defenseman Megan Keller notched the golden goal in 3-on-3 as the USA women’s hockey team won Olympic gold after defeating archrival Canada 2-1 today.
That wouldn’t have happened without Hilary, who deflected a shot from defenseman Laila Edwards for the match-evening goal with only 2 minutes until the end of the game to get his nation back in the match.
The U.S. had allowed only 1 goal during the whole competition before Canada’s 4th liner, Kristen O’Neill, scored short-handed at the beginning of the 2nd period in the clash for the Olympic gold.
It was the final Olympic match of the 36-year-old Hilary, the most decorated player in U.S. women’s hockey history, who revealed in May that these Games – her 5th – would be her last.
Knight secured her 2nd gold medal as her 3rd period goal moved her into sole possession atop the USA record book for most Olympic goals with 15 and points with 33.
USA goaltender Aerin Frankel finished the final with 30 saves.
