Max Verstappen has revealed he is considering retiring from Formula 1 at the end of the campaign, claiming he is not enjoying racing anymore after finishing 8th at the Japanese GP.
Max, who has been fiercely critical of the sport’s controversial new regulations, said that to the BBC after another disappointing race.
While the Dutch driver has frequently questioned his long-term future in F1, this time the 4-time world champ has answered a direct question whether he could retire at the end of the year, 2 seasons before the end of his Red Bull deal.
“That’s what I’m trying to say,” Verstappen claimed. “I’m considering everything at the moment.”
“In my personal life, I’m a happy person. You wait for the season to start, and then begin the question yourself if it is worth it? Or would you love to spend more time with your family? Spending more time with my friends while I’m not enjoying racing in Formula 1 anymore?”
Max had another disappointing weekend in Japan, eliminated in Q2 in qualifying before finishing 8th.
