World championship leader Max Verstappen set the fastest time in the first and only free practice ahead of the Miami Grand Prix in Formula 1.
The Dutchman closed a lap of 1.28.595, leaving Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz behind him.
Mercedes showed good pace with their upgrade package with George Russell finishing fourth and Hamilton – seventh. The second Ferrari car of Charles Leclerc completed just two laps before spinning in turn 16 and was unable to turn in the right direction, because of the narrow track in that part of the circuit. That let to his retirement of the session and he will have to work overtime during the Sprint qualifying later today.
RB also showed good pace and both Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo managed to get decent times (eight and eleventh) without even putting on the fastest soft tire on.
