Max Verstappen expressed his disappointment with Red Bull’s performance at Marina Bay Circuit, saying that they were ‘worse than expected’.
Both Verstappen and his teammate Sergio Perez were struggling for grip in Friday practice as they could only manage P7 and P8, while the Ferraris topped the session.
“There’s just a few things that we don’t understand. I will try to improve but it is quite a big gap.” the Dutchman remarked.
Overall, Ferrari look favorites for front row start, but pace-setter Carlos Sainz did not rule out Red Bull, despite them being some 0.7 seconds off the pace.
“When you look at their long-run pace, they looked the strongest car,” Sainz said.
“Once they sort out the one-lap pace, they will be there and in the fight for pole but Mercedes and McLaren and Aston should also be in that fight so I think we are in for quite an exciting day.”
