The Minnesota Vikings received the Houston Texans’ 1st-round selection today in an exchange that could be a precursor to moving further up the round to pick a QB to take the place of Kirk Cousins, who left the franchise in the offseason.

In the trade, Minnesota got Houston’s 23rd-overall selection along with a 7th-round selection. Houston acquired Minnesota’s 2nd-round selection, their 6th-round selection, and their 2nd-round selection for next year.
The exchange preserved Minnesota’s own 1st-round selection, 11th overall, which they could, in theory, trade with the number 23 selection to receive a higher selection.
Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah shared yesterday that Kirk’s leaving the team did not necessarily mean that the franchise will select a QB in the 1st-round in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Minnesota has inked free agent Sam Darnold to a 1-year, 10 million dollar deal as a potential bridge starter in the upcoming campaign, and the general manager revealed that the organization had the “flexibility to go either way.”
