Victor Wembanyama is officially underway as he made his NBA debut with the Spurs against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night and made an immediate splash. His presence, though, didn’t help San Antonio and they lost 119-126 to Dallas.
Luka Doncic was unsurprisingly the star for Mavericks with a triple-double, scoring 33 points and adding 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Irving added 22 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists.
The No. 1 pick in the NBA draft Wembanyama scored a shot in the opening minute of the game and misfired on a 3-point attempt from the top of the key. Despite that, the 19-year-old who stands nearly 7-foot-4 found his spot and s cored his first NBA points with a 3-pointer — again from near the top of the key — at the 8:25 mark of the first quarter.
That six points was all the scoring for Wembanyama in the first three quarters, but he showed his true colors in the final quarter with nine points, finishing with 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting.
