French sensation Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs has been unanimously crowned the NBA’s rookie of the year, following an exceptional season marked by his stellar performances in scoring, rebounds, and blocks.

As the first overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft, Wembanyama showcased his remarkable talent by averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and an impressive league-high of 3.6 blocks per game throughout the season.

In a remarkable feat, Wembanyama secured all 99 first-place votes from a media panel, becoming the first rookie since Karl-Anthony Towns in the 2015-16 season to achieve unanimous rookie of the year status.

At just 20 years old, Wembanyama makes history as the first French player to clinch the NBA’s rookie of the year award. He also joins the prestigious company of Spurs legends David Robinson (1989-90) and Tim Duncan (1997-98) as the third player to earn this honor while representing San Antonio.

Moreover, Wembanyama’s exceptional defensive prowess earned him recognition as one of the top contenders for the defensive player of the year award, alongside Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert and Miami’s Bam Adebayo. The winner of this accolade will be unveiled on Tuesday.
