Toto Wolff has voiced his frustration following the Las Vegas Grand Prix as he felt the team had the pace to challenge for podium places.
But a string of bad fortune has led to both cars finishing an unimpressive P7 and P8.
“Would have, should have, could have,” Wolff said. “We looked at the pace in free air and we had the pace of the leaders. When Lewis had no traffic that was pretty much where [Charles] Leclerc was racing in terms of lap times.”
“It summarises the season. You make your own luck, but we had more bad luck and today. Seventh, eighth – the two cars could have been on the podium, but they weren’t.”
With Ferrari’s strong showing in Sin City, Mercedes are under serious threat of losing P2 in the Constructors. The Scuderia currently trails the Silver Arrows by a mere 4 points with one race left. So it is all to play for in Abu Dhabi.
