Xavi Hernández claimed today after the disappointing 4-2 loss at Girona that it was emblematic of Barca’s shortcomings this campaign, but added that his players have been the better club in their 4 matches vs. their Catalan opponent and Los Blancos.
Girona’s victory at Montilivi secured their place in the UCL for the 1st time in their history, while also Real Madrid were crowned LaLiga champs after today’s result with 4 matches until the end of the season.
Xavi’s side, however, dropped to 3rd place in the league, below Girona, and with a 2nd-position finish and a place in next campaign’s Spanish Super Cup, now not depending on them.
“I’m not happy because we have seen both sides of the coin in 1 match,” Barcelona’s head coach shared with the media after the defeat.
“I was proud of my players after the 1st 45 minutes because we pressed well and dominated Girona, which is not easy, perhaps until the hour mark. From there, it’s the summary of our campaign.”
