NY Yankees reliever Jonathan Loaisiga will undergo a campaign-ending procedure to repair a torn UCL, the player shared today.
He is expected to miss up to a year.
Pain in Loaisiga’s arm surfaced near the end of his perfect 9 inning vs. the Diamonds 3 days ago and Jonathan underwent an MRI on the next day.
“It was a couple pitches before Loaisiga finished his match against Arizona,” Yankees head coach Aaron Boone shared yesterday. “Jonathan didn’t think that it was something serious. He finished the game, and then after the match, even getting with him, he still thought it was a minor issue. But, it seems like it is a very serious problem.”
The reliever spent most of the past campaign on the injured list after undergoing an arthroscopic procedure to remove a bone spur from his elbow almost a year ago. Jonathan returned in August but played only 17 games. He was also sidelined in 2022 with another shoulder problem.
Aaron Boone talks about the loss of Jonathan Loáisiga for the rest of the season:
