The Hammers showed nerves of steel to claim sensational victory

West Ham United defeated Chelsea 3-1 in a highly-emotional game, which saw 4 goals, a missed penalty and a red card.

It was David Moyes’ men, who struck first through center-back Nayef Aguerd, who complemented James Ward-Prowse cross with a fine header and put the Hammers in front after 7 minutes.

Chelsea were quick to react as their high pressure paid off and in the 32nd minute a poor clearance from the home team was all Carney Chukwuemeka needed to curl the ball past goalkeeper Alphonse Areola and drew the score level.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men had a golden chance to go into the lead right before half-time, but an excellent display from Areola denied Enzo Perez timid penalty take.

West Ham struck quickly in the second half as Michail Antonio gave them the lead with 8 minutes played.

Things turned sour for the Hammers as they found themselves a man down after goal scorer Aguerd was dismissed with a second yellow card.

Chelsea tried to press and take full advantage, but to no avail.

In the closing stages the Hammer were rewarded a penalty of their own and this time Lucas Paqueta was spot on and wrapped up the final scoreline 3-1.

The result is a huge blow for Chelsea, who still seek their first victory under new manager Pochettino.
