World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz comfortably advanced to Miami Open 4th round after a straight set victory 6-0, 7-6 (5) over Dusan Lajovic.
The Spaniard was in cruise control in the first set, not allowing his Serbian opponent to even get a single game. In the second there was a significant resistance from the lower-ranked player, who brought the game to a tie-break, but ultimately the class of Alcaraz saw him through and he will face American Tommy Paul on Tuesday.
“Yeah, today has been a great match, great level. I hope to play at this level on Tuesday,” Alcaraz said.
“I lost the first and only match that I played against Tommy. I know that he’s a really talented and really tough player, so I have to play at my best. Let’s see what’s going to happen on Tuesday.”
Paul and fellow American Taylor Fritz also advanced with relative ease in straight sets.
Paul defeated Alejandro Davidovic Fokina 6-3, 7-5, bagging home 8 aces in the process. Fokina had six double-faults.
The surprise result came from the world No.4 Casper Ruud game, as the Norwegian was outplayed and eliminated by Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Dutchman bagged an impressive 12 aces en route to victory and will face Emil Ruusuvuori from Finland in the next round.
