Rafael Nadal’s pursuit of a third and potentially final Olympic medal ended on Wednesday at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Nadal, alongside Carlos Alcaraz, was defeated in the men’s doubles quarterfinals by the No. 4 seeds, Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram, with a score of 6-2, 6-4.

Despite a spirited performance and a hard-fought victory in the second round, the lack of doubles experience for the Spanish pair was evident against the more seasoned Krajicek and Ram. The match, played under the roof of Court Philippe-Chatrier, saw the American duo dominate and efficiently dispatch the unseeded Spaniards.
Nadal, a two-time Olympic champion, previously won gold in singles (2008) and doubles (2016 with Marc Lopez). Paris, a city where Nadal has experienced immense success as a 14-time Roland Garros champion, was set to be the stage for his final Olympic appearance. After an early exit in the men’s singles, losing to former world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, Nadal shifted his focus entirely to the doubles event with Alcaraz.
