Alex De Minaur clinched a comfortable 6-4, 6-3 win over Emil Ruusuvuori to set up a match-up with either Serbia or Italy on Sunday.
“For us this cup is a priority. We do everything we can to represent Australia, with pride and passion,” said the world number 12.
The two captains decided not to play against each other as Australia was already guaranteed a win.
Australia will be looking to better their last year’s achievement, when they fell short at the last hurdle, losing out to Canada in the final.
Their last win came in 2003, when Hewitt also played a pivotal role as he won his opening game to inspire them to victory against Spain.
“Our boys dug really deep. We’re a tight-knit unit and we’ve given ourselves another opportunity on Sunday.” Hewitt said.
