The Catalans had to work hard, but in the end prevailed

Barcelona came out on top against Athletic Bilbao 1-0 in a tightly-contested game on Matchday 10 of La Liga on Sunday night.

The match was a pretty even contest before teenage substitution Marc Guiu gave the host the vital lead in the 80th minute, which they managed to hold onto.

Barca, who were without the injured Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Robert Lewandowski, had more possession but created fewer chances than the visitors in first half, where their best opportunity saw Joao Felix hit the bar in the 10th minute.

However, the tide changed in the 2nd half as the Catalans started dictating the pace and their persistence paid off through the 17-year-old’s strike.

It was an important win for Xavi’s men as they closed the gap to league leaders Real Madrid to just a single point, a week before El Clasico. The unbelievable Girona find themselves in between the two teams as they trail Los Blancos only on goal difference.
