Uli Hoeness, the honorary president of Bayern Munich, has revealed that the club is in contention with Liverpool for the appointment of Xabi Alonso as manager. The former player of both clubs is currently on the verge of leading Bayer Leverkusen to their maiden German Bundesliga title.
Both Bayern Munich and Liverpool are in search of new managers for the upcoming season.
“Clubs like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Leverkusen, and FC Bayern are actively pursuing him,” Hoeness disclosed to Ran Sport.
“He has demonstrated his managerial prowess and suitability for top-level coaching. With few available coaches currently, it’s challenging to find candidates who are not committed elsewhere or on sabbatical.”
Bayern Munich’s current manager, Thomas Tuchel, is set to depart at the end of the season, while Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool in January. Liverpool, currently second in the Premier League, is level on points with league leaders Arsenal.
Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, extended his contract with the club until 2026 in December. Alonso, who spent five years as a player at Real Madrid between his spells at Liverpool and Bayern Munich, has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2026.
