The Red Devils did respond with high pressure and aggressive play, but ultimately lacked the finishing touch in the last third.
New signing Rasmus Hojlund scored, but unfortunately his strike was disallowed after VAR intervened.
Against all expectations, it was Brighton, who was the more active team at the start of the second half and their efforts were soon rewarded, when in the 55th minute Pascal Gross doubled their lead with a fantastic finish after a calamitous error in United’s defense.
Joao Pedro completely silenced the home supporters in the 71st minute giving the visitors a commanding 3-0 advantage after a blister counter attack.
United responded with a thunderous strike from Hannibal Mejbri to reduce the deficit, but it was all too little too late.
Brighton currently sit 4th with 4 wins out of 5 games, while the Red Devils find themselves down in 12th with only 6 points out of possible 15.
