His decision comes after a stellar 2023-24 season, where he averaged 26.6 points and a career-best 6.1 assists per game. Despite being limited to 55 regular-season games due to injuries, Mitchell delivered a heroic performance in the playoffs, carrying the Cavaliers into the second round with impressive efforts in the final games against the Orlando Magic. However, a groin injury forced him out of the lineup during the second-round series against the Boston Celtics, where he missed the final two games.
Mitchell is entering his eighth NBA season, having played his first five seasons with the Utah Jazz. Over his career, he has averaged 24.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game in 468 regular-season appearances. His decision to stay with Cleveland reinforces his commitment to the team’s future and their pursuit of further success in the NBA.
