China is aiming to host two Formula One races in a single season, signaling the country’s increasing commitment to motorsport.
With the current F1 calendar featuring 24 races, including three in the United States, the battle between traditional European circuits and new global destinations is becoming more intense.
Formula 1’s Chinese Grand Prix averaged 824,000 viewers on ESPN last weekend — the event’s largest audience ever.
That’s a pretty ridiculous number considering the race started at 3 am ET. pic.twitter.com/ZqXSGr81Ev

Shanghai has been the home of the Chinese Grand Prix since its F1 debut in 2004, but the event faced disruptions in recent years due to strict COVID-19 restrictions. Now, with growing local interest and a renewed push for expansion, discussions around adding a second Chinese Grand Prix are gaining traction.
If approved, China would join the United States, Italy, and other select nations that host multiple races in a season, further solidifying its importance in the Formula One ecosystem.
