Newcastle was the side who started stronger with Jacob Murphy hitting the post and seeing a penalty overturned by VAR minutes later.
But it was Arsenal who struck first with an excellent 25-yards strike from captain Martin Odegaard, who bagged his 15th goal of the season.
Opportunities flooded both end of the pitch as neither team was unable to put the ball into the back of the net.
Eventually, the game was more or less settled with Fabian Schar’s own goal doubling the Gunners lead and giving them a comfortable advantage.
With this result Arsenal keep up the pressure at City, who still remain favorites for the title. Newcastle, however, keep their 3rd place, but that could change later this evening if Manchester United were to win against West Ham.
The loss also means Liverpool come into the picture for top 4 with the Merseyside trailing the Magpies by 3 points, who still have a game in hand.
