Antonio Conte bid farewell to Tottenham Hotspur fans in an Instagram post on Monday evening.
The Italian left the club the previous evening by mutual consent after his extraordinary rant a week earlier, when he criticized the players and the higher hierarchy of lacking the right spirit and motivation.
His former assistant, Cristian Stellini, along with Ryan Mason will take over the wheel at the club as an interim manager until the end of the season.
Despite his bitterness, Conte did show sympathy for the Spurs fans and that could have been heard in the angry rant after the 3-3 draw with Southampton. Therefore, it is no surprise that he used the opportunity to thank them on social media. Here’s what he wrote:
‘Football is passion. I would like to deeply thank everyone at Spurs who appreciated and shared my passion and my intense way of living football as a coach.
‘A special thought to the fans who always showed me support and appreciation, it’s been unforgettable to hear them singing my name.’
‘Our journey together has ended, I wish you all the best for the future.’
Conte spent 16 months with the club securing them a Champions League football this season after the lacklustre tenure of Nuno Espirito Santo. He looked set to book them a top 4 place again, but off-field factors seem to have deterred his relationship with the board.
