Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has been named the winner of the 2023-24 Magic Johnson Award, the Professional Basketball Writers Association (PBWA) announced on Wednesday.
The Magic Johnson Award, voted on by over 200 writers and editors who are members of the PBWA, honors an NBA player who excels on the court and demonstrates “cooperation and grace in dealing with the media and fans,” according to the organization. This is the second time Curry has received this accolade, having previously won it in 2016. Other two-time winners include Damian Lillard (2017, 2020) and Shane Battier (2007, 2013).

Curry was one of five finalists for this year’s award, alongside Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat), DeMar DeRozan (Chicago Bulls), Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves), and Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers).
Curry, 36, has accumulated numerous accolades over his 15 seasons since being drafted 7th overall by the Warriors in 2009. His honors include two league MVP awards, four NBA championships, ten All-Star selections, four All-NBA First Team selections, and a spot on the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team. For the 2022-23 season, Curry was also awarded the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award and named the Social Justice Champion, receiving the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Trophy.
During the 2023-24 season, Curry averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, and was named Clutch Player of the Year, further solidifying his status as one of the game’s greats both on and off the court.
