The Portugal international (45) has inked a 3-year deal with Barca.
The Brazilian-born midfielder joined Barcelona from Benfica in 2004 and triumphed with La Liga 2 times in 4 campaigns, as he also won the Champions League with the Spanish giant in 2006.
The current Catalan side sporting director Mateu Alemany will leave his position when the summer transfer window closes at the end of the month.
La Liga champions announced that Deco would be in charge of the philosophy of the team, and he will work daily with the head coach Xavi and his coaching staff.
Barcelona added that they are planning a restructuring behind the scenes, as they will provide more information about that in the upcoming months. Ex-sporting director Jordi Cruyff left after the end of the past campaign.
