Draymond Green will not activate the contract extension option with the Golden State Warriors for next season. This was reported to ESPN and The Athletic by the executive director of the player’s management agency, Klutch Sports, Rich Paul.
Green, who played 11 years for the Warriors, gave up $27.6 million in search of better compensation either in San Francisco or as a free agent.
“We are continuing to negotiate with Golden State, but at the same time we are reviewing all possible options,” Paul told ESPN.
“We want Draymond back and I’ll say that as much as it takes. Steve Kerr (head coach) feels the same way. Draymond means a lot to our team and we need him to play at the highest level possible,” said the new team general manager Mike Dunleavy in his first press conference.
The Warriors are one of many teams in the NBA that are expecting bigger penalties after the new collective bargaining agreement and specifically changes to the “luxury fee” go into effect.
