The Lioness advanced to the ¼ finals.

England eliminated Nigeria from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in a matchup from the 1/8 finals today, with Chloe Kelly netting the winning penalty after the two national teams failed to score during the regular 90 minutes and the two extra 15 minutes.

Beth England, Rachel Daly, and Alex Greenwood also scored successfully for the European champs, who were left with 10 players on the pitch in regulation time.

Lauren James – the top scorer with 3 goals in the group stage – received a red card near the end of the regulation time in the 87th minute after an awful stamp on the back of Michelle Alonzi after both players went down in a tangled heap.

England will play against Jamaica or Colombia in the ¼ finals of the World Cup in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday.
