Atlanta Falcons GM Ian Cunningham revealed today that the organization is bringing in Tua Tagovailoa to compete with Michael Penix Jr. for the QB1 position.
Atlanta inked Tua to a 1-year, 1.3 million deal over the weekend after his cut from the Dolphins. The general manager shared that Tua is in the team’s building today in Flowery Branch, Georgia, taking his physical.
“For Tagovailoa coming to the Falcons, he understands he is coming to fight for his place,” Cunningham shared with the media. “It’s the same for Penix Jr. and, to be honest, for everybody here, not just those 2 at the QB position – but everybody must fight to be on the team.”
Michael is still recovering from the left ACL procedure in the past autumn after sustaining the problem in Week 11. Penix Jr. has revealed recently that he will be ready for the beginning of the new campaign, but that’s still not clear. Typically, such an injury could take up to a year to heal.
The previous Atlanta regime was that Michael would be QB1 as soon as he returns from his injury. Now, however, things are different after the organization dissmissed boss Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot after the end of the season.
