The American world number 10 won the 1st set after a break in the 7th game. However, in the 2nd set, the Canadian lost his serve in the 3rd game and didn’t recover till the end of the set.
Fritz converted 2 out of 3 break points – one in the first and one in the second set for the win. Shapovalov, on the other hand, didn’t even have a chance to make a break.
Taylor Fritz will face world number 8 Holger Rune in the 1/8 finals at the Master 1000 tournament in Miami on Friday.
