Manchester City couldn’t find a way to win in a second Premier League game in a row, losing 0-1 to Aston Villa away, but this wasn’t the most worrying fact of the night in Birmingham for team manager Pep Guardiola.
According to the sports statistics platform Opta, City attempted just two shots in this match; the fewest ever by a Pep Guardiola team in a game within Europe’s big-five leagues. At the same time the 22 shots from Aston Villa was the joint-most faced by a Guardiola side in the same period.

In the past weekend City finished 3-3 against Tottenham as they found themselves leading the game twice, but couldn’t finish it off. With the defeat from Villa, the reigning champions are now fourth – six points away from league leader Arsenal and four from Liverpool.
