Jordan Henderson has claimed that his choice to leave Al Ettifaq and ink with Ajax was “a football decision” and admitted that he caused pain to the LGBTQIA+ with his transfer to the Middle Eastern country.
Jordan inked a 2-and-a-half-year deal with Ajax yesterday after he agreed to terminate his contract with Al Ettifaq, less than 6 months after inking for the Saudi Pro League team.
“Without a doubt, it was a football decision. I admit, I’ve got to make a choice for myself about what’s best for my family and me in the future. … I think a lot of people would probably love to see me criticize the Saudi championship and everything that went along with that, but that certainly wasn’t the case, and that’s something that I will do neither now, neither in the future.”
Henderson added that he respects the fans and the people in Saudi Arabia, but it just didn’t work out for him there.
“If anyone was offended then that’s on me. I apologise for that.”
