The deal ties Samsonov with the Maple Leafs and makes sure he receives a significant pay once his contract expires in 2024.
The 26-year-old had a brilliant campaign with a record of 27-10-5 and 4 shutouts, which ultimately helped him take Matt Murray No.1 place.
Samsonov did, however, struggle with injuries as he had to sit out the playoffs. But if he is fit, he is certainly Toronto’s best choice for a goaltender.
Since Samsonov filed for arbitration, the Leafs will get an additional 48-hour buyout window expected to begin in three days. Players who were on the team at the trade deadline on March 3 with a cap hit greater than $4 million are eligible to be bought out in this window.
