Nelson inspired performance secures the New York team a victory

The New York Islanders defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 to clinch a playoff spot on Wednesday night.


Brock Nelson scored twice, while Hudson Fasching and Anders Lee. Goaltender Ilya Sorokin made 16 saves as the Islanders finished off their regular season.

Rem Pitlick and Nick Suzuki scored for Montreal, while goaltender Sam Montembeault finished with 31 saves as the Canadiens’ still have one game left in the regular season.

The Islanders await their first round play-off opponent, which will be determined from the Panthers-Hurricanes clash on Thursday night.

They missed out on the postseason play last year, which led to the sacking of then head-coach Barry Trotz in May.

Canadiens face Boston on Thursday night for their last game of the season.
