Both Italy and Ukraine have 13 points each. Still, the Italians are ahead of the Ukrainians in the standards because the tiebreaker is head-to-head matches. That means that Spalletti’s team must avoid defeat on Monday to qualify for the European tournament next year in Germany.
Italy thought that they decided everything in the 1st half against Macedonia, as the home team had a 3-0 lead after the 1st 45 minutes. Matteo Darmian scored the 1st goal in the 17th minute, and then Federico Chiesa netted a brace in the last 5 minutes of the 1st half for the classic lead. Jorginho even missed a penalty in the 40th minute before Chiesa’s 2 goals.

Jani Atanasov scored for the away team in the 52nd minute to make it 3-1. To make things even more interesting, Jani Atanasov netted his 2nd goal in the 74th minute after Enis Bardhi’s assist to make his team trail only 1 goal. However, Giacomo Raspadori decided everything with his goal in the 81st minute to make the Italians lead 2 goals.
Stephan El Shaarawy made it 5-2 in the extra time.
